Regular dental checkups are essential to maintaining good oral health. We encourage regular checkups at least every six months. Seeing the dentist twice a year is recommended because Dr. Miolen can:
First Visit
Your first visit typically includes x-rays that allow Dr. Miolen to view the structure of the jaw, the position of any teeth that have not yet erupted, malformed roots, tooth decay and more.
The initial visit also involves getting your medical history. When you share your medical history, be sure to provide complete, up-to-date information on your health. We need to know if you have experienced recent hospitalization or surgery, or if you have recently been ill. All those factors impact your dental health. We will also ask the names, doses, and frequency of any medications you are taking — whether prescription or over-the-counter products — and the name of your physician. Just as importantly, please share any fears you may have about dental treatment.
The information collected in your first visit will help Dr. Miolen select the safest and most effective method of treatment for you.
Regular checkup appointments typically take 60 minutes, maybe a bit more. Patients are seen by appointment only and we work in emergencies as often as possible. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.
Regular checkups include a thorough cleaning, polishing and an oral exam by the Hygienist. During the oral exam, the doctor checks the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue. At each visit, Dr. Miolen also checks old fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack. Plus, we check your blood pressure because your overall health is important to us.
The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We have payment plans to suit different budgets. We file the necessary papers to insurance companies. We work hard to make dental care affordable, to make sure you optimize your insurance benefits and have a way to get the care you need and want.
In an effort to keep fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:
For your convenience, we accept payment by Cash, Check, Visa, Mastercard and CareCredit. The CareCredit application link is on the left side of our webpage.
We will make every effort to inform you in advance of any out of pocket expense you may have. (Sometimes treatment changes and can lower or increase the cost of
care.)
If you have dental insurance, we will help maximize your benefits by completing and filing your forms at no charge. Few policies pay for all services and rarely at a high percentage. We’ll do our best to estimate what your benefit plan will pay so you can be prepared before your appointment.
It is the patient’s responsibility to communicate with your chosen insurance provider and employer regarding premiums and coverage. With privacy issues, there is much the insurance provider will not share with us.
Our responsibility is your health. Dr. Miolen recommends treatment based on a medical diagnosis that is in your best interest. He does not tailor a diagnosis according to benefit or insurance limitations.
